A broken system

Young adults that transition out of the foster care system are way more likely to face injustices without support and networks of help.

  • 57% struggle to maintain consistent employment since leaving the system.

  • 46% will have experienced homelessness, often multiple times, by the age of 21.

  • 44% will have not earned a high school diploma or GED by the age of 19.

  • 20% will be incarcerated before their 21st birthday.

  • 88% of trafficking victims were in the foster care system.

It does not have to be this way.

What if these individuals had all the support and resources they needed to truly flourish?

Mission

Tamarisk is a community that supports young adults as they transition out of the foster care system by providing job training, life skills, and mentorship.

Tamarisk Coffee

Trauma-informed employment at our coffee shop.

  • A grace-filled workplace that understands employees where they are at while minimizing barriers that hinder stable employment.

  • Employees learn the technical craft of brewing coffee while building life skills such as team-building, customer service, and so much more.

  • The national minimum wage ($7.25/hour) often falls short of a livable wage in many areas - we believe in providing our employees with a real wage to support basic needs.

  • There is no such thing as a single plan that can meet everybody’s needs - we believe in getting to know each and every person and set individualized, measurable goals so they can truly thrive.

Tamarisk Community

We believe this is where true flourishing can happen.

  • Classes on finance, cooking, mental health, and everything in between to foster flourishing in adulthood.

  • We believe this thing is really about relationships, not just a program. Our goal is to become family to folks.

  • We hope to use our location as much as we possibly can as a space for people to gather, see each other, and be known.
